Celebrating the Dignity of Labor is a 16 piece sidewalk mosaic installed in Downtown Watsonville, CA. After consulting with the community we decided to represent the 14 major waves of immigration to the town up until 1942 and the labor each immigrant group did. The labor of our newest immigrants from South America is represented with strawberries. Each time a new immigrant group arrived they did the most difficult and lowest paying work. Watsonville is strawberry town and almost every group who come has picked them since they were first cultivated by the Chinese in the late 1800’s.
