Public Library Floor

Carol C. Heitzig, the then director of the Watsonville Public Library system, had a problem.  The carpet in front of the elevator at the main branch library in downtown Watsonville, was stained and coming unglued. It was an unsightly trip hazard. After consulting with time installers she decided to see if a mosaic would be much more expensive than a regular tile installation. Carol happily chipped in from her own funds to make up the difference and commissioned Kathleen to create a new mosaic tile floor for the library.

Kathleen teamed up with Heidi Alonzo to co-design the image. This was the first community generated project that took place in the newly opened Muzzio Mosaic Arts Center.
